What Is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychotropic cannabinoid compound with enormous therapeutic potential. CBD is just one of over 85 cannabinoids presently identified in the cannabis plant and is the second most abundant cannabinoid in marijuana after THC. In Hemp, however, THC is only present in trace amounts, while CBD dominates the plant’s makeup. CBD interacts with our naturally occurring systems but is not psychoactive. This makes it a safer, less controversial alternative.
How CBD Works
The EndoCannabinoid System
CBD interacts with the body through the Endocannabinoid System, one of the most important regulatory systems in the human body. The ECS plays a crucial role in regulating our physiology as well as our cognitive processes. This is significant because CBD interacts with the ECS and significant impacts your brain and body through our CB1 and CB2 brain receptors which connect to our central nervous system. The ECS regulates mood, appetite, pain-sensation, reducing inflammation as well as countless other functions.
CBD Product Types
Sublingual Tincture
CBD tinctures are used by placing drops under the tongue, allowing them to soak into the capillaries that reside there. This allows the compound to bypass the digestive system and liver, entering the bloodstream more quickly. When using this method, it is recommended to hold the drops under your tongue 30-90 seconds without swallowing.
Topical Salve
Applying CBD Pain Salve topically by rubbing salve into the skin offers targeted relief to a specific area. This method doesn't actually enter the bloodstream. CBD is absorbed into the skin and interacts with the cannibinoid receptors nearby, providing virtually instant relief to the area.
Inhalation / Vaping
Vaping CBD is great for treating acute symptoms that require faster relief. Inhalation provides the highest bio-availability as well as quicker onset of effects from CBD. The CBD enters your lungs then diffuses directly into your bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system and the liver. This method is very effective because it not only enters circulation quickly but less of the CBD is lost in the absorption process.
Full Spectrum CBD is a vitamin and nutrient rich extract that contains the “full spectrum” of natural cannabinoids, terpenes, essential vitamins, fatty acids and protein including the nine essential amino acids; vitamins A, C & E, iron, zinc, calcium, potassium and phosphorus. In addition to CBD, our full spectrum tincture contains CBG, CBN and CBC, just to name a few. Combining the many cannabinoids in addition to the abundance of vitamins and minerals naturally present in hemp provides tremendous health benefits due to the “entourage effect”. The entourage effect refers to not just how any single element benefits you but how the combination of the various whole plant ingredients result in tremendous benefits to the users’ health and can provide outstanding therapeutic relief from a wide range of conditions.
Zero-THC CBD Products contain CBD Isolate. Isolate is derived from Hemp using the C02 extraction method to provide CBD without the THC. This provides a solution to the many consumers with concerns regarding THC building up in their system. CBD is the primary active compound in Hemp providing medical relief and therapy. Using Isolate is often preferred by CBD product manufactures or individuals who are interested in mixing or creating their own CBD remedies. This is due to the ease in which the exact MG can be measured and administered. Another attractive quality for many consumers is the flavor, or more so the lack there-of. Full-Spectrum has an earthy, plant flavor where the Isolate is flavorless and therefore is more easily incorporated into various consumable CBD remedies especially those designed for children or pets.
Which Product Is Right For You?
A daily regimen is key to getting the best possible results from using CBD. Some first time CBD users prefer taking a daily Gel-Cap while most customers select a CBD Tincture. Horizon CBD Tinctures are available in THC Free or Full Spectrum. THC Free Tincture is a great option for anyone who is wary of consuming the legal limit of THC in their CBD and for users who prefer the clean, sweet strawberry flavor over the more earthy Full Spectrum Tincture flavor options. Full Spectrum has some clear advantages for customers because it contains the “full-spectrum” of the Hemp plants’ nutrient rich compounds. CBD Salve, Bath Bombs, and Vaping products are great for immediate relief and we usually recommend them as a great supplement to your daily CBD routine. The most important and effective aspect of using CBD products is finding the right dose and being consistent in taking it.
